About This Data
Data Sources

Interprovincial trade data is sourced from two Statistics Canada tables: Table 12-10-0101-01 (full economy, goods and services, 2010–2022, 564 SUPC products) and Table 36-10-0709 (goods only, 2022–2024, 251 SUPC products, current and constant 2017 prices). Data was compiled using automated processes and may contain errors. Contact us if you notice any errors.

Scope

Goods sectors include Energy and Manufactured Goods. Services sectors include Market Services (banking, consulting, IT, transportation, real estate), Non-Market Services (government, public education, healthcare), Financial & Insurance, Non-Profit Services, and Import Services. Goods data is available 2010–2024 by stitching both tables. Services data is available 2010–2022 only (the newer table covers goods exclusively).

Product Classification

Products use SUPC (Supply and Use Product Classification) codes — distinct from the HS codes used in international trade. Each SUPC code embeds a 3-digit NAICS industry number, enabling grouping by industry subsector. There is no direct concordance between SUPC and HS.

Estimate Types

• P6 — Interprovincial outflows (default): goods and services shipped from one province to another • P7 — Regional outflows: includes interprovincial + international exports • P3T6 — Total supply: includes interprovincial + international + intra-provincial

Currency & Methodology

All values are in current Canadian dollars (nominal) unless the real vs nominal view is selected, which shows constant 2017 prices for goods (available from 2022 onward). Source values are reported in thousands CAD. Intra-provincial trade is excluded — only flows between different provinces are shown.

Known Limitations

• Services data ends in 2022 — the newer table does not include services • 20 construction-related products are only available in the historical table (through 2022) • Intra-provincial trade is excluded • Annual granularity only — no monthly or quarterly breakdown
